Glass tops council candidates in campaign contributions Six candidates for Petaluma City Council raised a combined $59,000 in campaign contributions during the three-month period ending Sept. 30, city records show. And opponents of Measure K, the water and sewer rollback initiative, brought in about $12,300. The Yes-on-K group said it was not required to file until year-end but only collected a few thousands dollars. Former Mayor David Glass led the field of candidates with $18,714, including a self-loan of $3,000. Councilwoman Samantha Freitas had about $11,000 and former Councilman Mike Healy trailed with about $10,200. Candidate Tiffany Renée collected about $9,600, including a $1,000 loan to herself, Councilwoman Karen Nau had $6,500, and candidate Spence Burton had $2,800, including his own $2,000 loan. Nau topped her competitors in spending for the period at $22,000. Money came to campaign coffers from all quarters. Glass got cash from past and present council members, including $200 from Mayor Pam Torliatt. He also received donations from candidates in other cities. Freitas and Healy had money from development and business interests, including $200 each from the North Coast Builders Exchange. Renée had smaller donations from residents and labor groups while Nau had numerous developer contributions. Burton had support from Diane Reilly-Torres, a community watchdog. The No-on-K group, Petalumans for Clean Water and Fiscal Responsibility, took money from a variety of sources including local developers, environmentalists, Realtors and city employee unions. The group spent about $10,000 over the three months and had about $2,300 left in the bank. You can reach Staff Writer Paul Payne at 762-7297 or paul.payne@pressdemocrat.com. |
